[Release] Cube Colossus

Cube!

Cube!

It’s released guys!! The 8 months of work is finally finished D: D:

A group of interstellar explorer’s lifes being endangered as their comrades lost in a giant mechanical cube-like fortress. Rua Elzee and Cedric Ashcroft, pilots of A.M.U. unit 01, are trying to save their lives, as well as their comrades’.

Battle with the Cubes in this uniquely controlled arena shoooter game! Upgrade your A.M.U – Advanced Mobile Units, purchase armaments, unlock Cores and achievements, fight your way as the story unfolds!

Controls:

- Mouse : Move

- Left Click (Hold) : Fire, be careful armaments can overheat

- W/Up Arrow: Change to the nearest target

- A/Left Arrow: Tilt Shooting offset CounterClockwise

- D/Right Arrow: Tilt shooting offset Clockwise

- S/Down Arrow: Reset shooting offset

- Space : Overdrive

The concept/theme of this game is “Inverted Control”. Usually WASD/Arrow keys to move and mouse to aim is the common control of navigation, but we want to change it. So we actually made mouse to move the AMU and WASD as action keys (and thus made CC has lock-on system). It took us 8 months to finish, so we hope it won’t dissapoint you (and us). Enjoy!

What else to say? It’s simply too good!

I normally lament keyboard-and-mouse games – nothing against you or other developers; it’s more of a personal preference. But this one just make a good exception.

I’m currently at the final level. So far, the storyline has been good (plus the characters look adorable!), so is the gameplay, save for a bugs common among Flash aplications like my shield was once said to be 3.3999999999964 (in the victory screen) and actually displaying “NaN” as shield upon defeat. The difficulty curve is a bit unforgiving though, with Act 16 being the most difficult one I’ve seen. I don’t know if it’s harder than the final boss.

I don’t really like about the locking system though. In situations like Act 16 I can’t really try to aim while evading tons of enemy fire. Well, I’ll just take that as part of the game’s fiddiculty.

It’s a good thing in overall. If you ask me, the 8 months is torally worth it. Is this AS2 or AS3?

Congratulation for -finally- releasing, gain featured game title and reviewed as featured games.
Well, after beta-testing continuously, I’m still excited to play it again from the beginning just to know the story and experience the tense of the gameplay again and again ^^
Hope your next project can finished soon…
(it mean I should raise my pen and keyboard shortly)

    @statement: “character looks adorable” << thanks ^^

Wow, that’s amazing, man! I’ll be playing this quite a bit. Is this a game you’ll be able to push up to Game Jolt?

I’ve beaten the game, and found some bugs afterwards.

    - The problem has been here, but it’s not gameplay-affecting. When you leave the mouse alone without any available targets, the ship will only face left, right, down-right or down.
    - The secret ship unlocked after beating Act 20 is said to have the overdrive of AMU01 and AMU02, but in reality it only creates a shield – no berserk or shield replenish.

And I think the ending scene goes a bit too fast. I can’t read the text fast enough.

    Again, nice game.

Thank you for the bug report. I’m uploading a new version to get rid the 2nd bug.

And answering your first post’s question, it’s AS2.0… I haven’t learned AS3.0 yet back then (this project started last year), and then when i starting to learn, it’s too late; and porting will need too much effort…

Allow me to begin by saying that this is the best flash game I’ve played for as long as I can remember.

I have exactly two complaints: I feel like the offset system was too sensitive. A small button press could send the stream of fire way off course. I ended up ignoring the A and D keys in favor of positioning myself infront or behind the enemy’s current direction of motion. A decrease in sensitivity to allow for tighter controls would have been nice.

The second is that I want there to be more game to play. The last row there implied that there would be a set of five bonus levels, whereas as far as I can tell there is only the one. I’m fairly sure I’ve done everything that could possibly unlock more, as I’ve gotten all the archive cards and purchased all the weapons, and gotten Rua’s skill with all of them to level 99. If there are more levels that I somehow missed, I’d like to know about them.

Also: That is some great boss music there.
